Now accepting new clients

Most new clients have their first session within two weeks of reaching out.

A gentle start

We begin with a free 15-minute call. No forms, no pressure — just a chance to see whether it feels like a fit.

Private and confidential

Sessions happen in a quiet office or over a HIPAA-compliant video platform. What you share stays between us.

Evidence-based, human-paced

CBT, EMDR and ACT — chosen for you, delivered at a pace you set. You will always know why we are doing what we are doing.

This is a safe place

A quiet room, a steady presence, and no agenda but yours.

Therapy works when you feel safe enough to be honest. Everything about Still Waters — the office, the pace, the way we talk about money and scheduling — is designed to make that easier.

  • You set the pace. We never push you toward something you are not ready for, and we check in often about how it is going.
  • Plain language, no jargon. You will always understand what we are doing in session and why.
  • Inclusive and affirming. LGBTQ+ affirming, culturally humble, and welcoming of every faith and background.

Who you’ll work with

Dr. Maya Okafor, LCSW

Founder & lead therapist · she/her

I became a therapist because I believe people change most in relationships where they feel genuinely safe. My job is to build that kind of room with you — steady, honest and unhurried — and then bring the right tools into it.

I work with adults navigating anxiety, burnout, grief and the aftermath of difficult experiences, and with couples who want to feel like a team again. Outside the office you will find me on a trail with my dog, or trying — and failing — to keep houseplants alive.

Credentials

  • DSW, University of Southern California
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (OR #L12345, WA #LW60012345)
  • EMDRIA-certified EMDR therapist
  • Externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy

How I work

Collaborative and transparent. I draw on CBT, EMDR and ACT, and I will always explain what we are doing and why. You set the pace; I keep us pointed somewhere useful.

In their words

What it feels like to be here.

Shared with permission and anonymised to protect privacy. Everyone’s path through therapy is their own; these are a few of them.

I came in convinced I just needed to “try harder.” Maya helped me see the burnout for what it was, and for the first time in years I feel like I have some ground under me.

Individual client, 30s

Anxiety & burnout · telehealth

We were having the same fight on a loop. Couples work gave us a language for what was actually happening — and a way to stop it before it started.

Couple, married 9 years

Couples counseling · in person

After my dad died I didn’t want advice, I wanted someone who could sit with it. That is exactly what I found here. It was gentle, and it helped.
